LE CHANT SACRE is a male voice choir composed of about twenty passionate singers whose main repertoire is Ashkenazi Jewish liturgy, the central Europe and german jewish tradition. We are all amateur and come from all walks of life.
The choir is placed under the direction of Mr. Remi Studer, a professional choir conductor, composer and singer graduated at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg.
Curently, the Chairman of the Choir is Mr Marc Ackermann.

Our choir is one of the last synagogue choir in France performing every Shabbat services (friday evening and saturday morning) and all festivals with a permanent professional ‘Hazan (Cantor), Mr. Isaac Ouaknine, at the Grand Synagogue in Strasbourg, LA SYNAGOGUE DE LA PAIX (The Peace Synagogue).
Thus, we perpetuate the jewish liturgy of Ashkenazi rite, especially of Alsace (eastern France, near the german border) and participate to preserve the specific cantorial music of the Rhine Valley.
We also perform at the synagogue on special events : official and patriotic commemorations as well as wedding ceremonies, accompanied by professional musicians.

With years of practice and performance, we consequently enlarged our repertoire which is now completed with Sephardic liturgy (jewish liturgy from North Africa), judeo-baroque music with songs of  Comtat Venaissin heritage(south of France), music from the eastern Europe tradition (in yiddish or hebrew) as well as Israeli folklore.
This huge work allowed us to perform with famous ‘Hazanim (Cantors) like Adolphe Attia, Nachama Estrongo, Refael Muller, Israel Rand, Moshe Stern, Gregory Yakerson, ... in many festivals, French Music Days, European Jewish Heritage Days in France and abroad (Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Israel).

Thank to that, the Council of Europe rewarded us of the 2008 European Choir Price.
The Choir has been selected to participate, with 6 other Choirs from Jeusalem, Paris, Johannesbourg, Warshaw and Berlin, to the 2nd Louis Lewandowski Festival in December 2012.
